First, I would like to apologize for not posting recently. I’ve been really busy, and when I was home, I have been to tired to focus.
However, I received an e-mail the other day that really got me to thinking. I haven’t posted it until now because I wanted to research it and see if there was any truth to what was provided. I haven’t checked every state, but several sources I have checked says this e-mail that is circulating is completely true.
It concerns the preamble of each State or Commonwealth’s constitution. I found it quite interesting that each of our 50 States mention God in some fashion.
You can scroll down to check your state, or if you wish, read them all. I did.
So like I said, it got me to thinking about separation of church and state. Considering that our forefathers took great pains to write such wonderful documents that govern each State and our Nation, and these documents reference God, it seems impossible to me that we can have total separation of church and state.
But let’s back up a minute. What exactly does that statement mean, the separation of church and state? Well, organizations such as the ACLU, and agnostics and non-believers would have you believe that it means that God has no place in Government. Period. But I disagree. It is my sincere belief that the term separation of church and state came about as a means to ensure that no one type of church, or denomination, were able to get control of the Government. And that’s about it. End of story.
We can not have one church denomination or church period experience to much power in our Government in fear that such church or denomination would interfere with the inalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
How can that be? Simple really. Think about it. If you have to much “church control”, pretty soon, there would be problems with these, as over zealous people start pushing ideals off on people who don’t want them.
The great thing about this country was that it was founded so that we had religious freedom, to worship as we wish, to believe in the god of our choice without interference from anyone. There is a whole lot more of course, but I’m attempting to stick to the point I’m trying to make here.
Many of our countries ideals and laws are founded on those found in the Christian bible. As a whole, I would say that it has worked pretty well, since the US, despite our current financial difficulties, remains the strongest and most prosperous country in the world. We have the most freedoms of any other country and we owe that fact to how this country was set-up.
But you have organizations that protest having the 10 commandments visible in a courthouse. Why? Because they want nothing to do with the Christian God. If you are islamic, or hindu, and have your own faith, that is fine, but to live in this country, you must live by it’s laws. Just because we have laws and ideals based on Christianity shouldn’t matter, since it makes it possible for you to believe as you will without fear. You don’t get the same treatment form the Taliban.
Over the years, we have allowed people to argue, sue and fight to have God removed from every portion of our society except in an actual church. Even now, there is fear that as a Pastor, if you preach what the bible says, you might get arrested for hate crimes. As a result, our country is in worse shape than it ever has been in. Our Government no longer looks to the bible for reasonable practices and ideals. As a result, and I fully believe this, we are now suffering in so many ways. Our economy is in shambles. Crime rates have soared. Society is floundering. I won’t apologize for the fact that it is my belief that this stems from the fact that so many have turned their backs on the bible and what it says.
As Christians, we know what the bible says. We know that there is good advice on how to control your money, your government, your daily lives. How to treat your wife, your kids, your neighbors. But because we have allowed so much separation of church and state, we have lost our way somewhat.
This nation has become a place that promotes self. Concern only for self. But the bible says the heart (heart of self) is wicked. As human’s, we are selfish by nature. Because we have turned to self, we have lost so much.
Until we can get back to the basic ideals of the bible, and stop pushing it from our nation’s society, things will continue to worsen. That doesn’t meant that everyone who lives here has to believe as Christians do, but you do have to live by our laws. Lucky for you, those laws will allow you to believe as you will, provided you don’t break any laws. After all, Jesus said, judge not. So we shouldn’t judge how and what people believe, as long as they live by our laws. Does that make any sense? It does to me.
So read what each state had to say and the next time you think about separation of church and state, see where you stand. Are we doing the right thing?
